One of the services offered by the Technology Help Desk is Hardware Repair for personal computers. This is offered free to students* and is often a lifeline for someone whose computer has suffered a catastrophic failure.
During the Fall 2012 semester, we accepted and repaired over 132 computers. In comparison, we repaired 106 in Fall 2011.
Hardware Repair includes everything from removing viruses, recovering lost data, reinstalling operating systems, installing hard drives or memory, or replacing entire screens on laptops. We?ve assisted in purchasing parts and contacting warranty support** when necessary. When repair is not possible, we provide documentation and advice to the user so that they are able to make informed decisions on how best to continue.
The current Hardware Repair staff are Charles Banta, Vivek Bisen, Dylan Essing, Isaac Dontje Lindell , Erik Tinglestad, and TIm Van Cleave. Hardware Repair staff are hand picked by the Help Desk Managers and require staff to be employed for at least one full year before being considered. On occasion, other members of the Help Desk staff pitch in and do quick fixes
- Faculty and Staff personally owned computers can be repaired, however, priority is given to Student computers.
- If a computer is under warranty, Help Desk staff will provide information and guidance but will not perform any work so as not to void the warranty.
